HIV-2 infection is less frequent than HIV-1 but affects one to two million people, mostly West African patients. Understanding the virus and host mechanisms of this model of attenuated retroviral infection could lead to identify potential means to control HIV infection. Clinical research endpoints and treatment guidelines defined for HIV-1 do not fit and apply to the characteristics of HIV-2 infection and the gold standard therapy remains to be determined through collaborative studies. The satellite symposium aims to present updated data on virological, immunological, and North-South clinical research on this infection.

> Symposium ANRS "HIV-2: a model of attenuated HIV infection"

A safe and effective HIV Vaccine remains our best chance at ending the epidemic. How close are we to developing an HIV Vaccine? What are the latest developments in basic and clinical science? How are these new discoveries informing vaccine design and testing? What might future clinical trials look like in the midst of other new HIV prevention research results?

> Symposium "HIV vaccines and the prevention revolution: what is the shortest path to ending the epidemic?

"HIV and health systems: leveraging HIV scale-up to strengthen chronic disease services"

ICAP at Columbia University, in collaboration with the International AIDS Society, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the French National Agency for Research on AIDS and Viral Hepatitis (ANRS), the U.S National Institutes of Health (NIH), the U.S. the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), and the NCD Alliance will convene the third in the series of IAS pre-meetings on HIV and health systems, focusing on HIV and non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The meeting will explore ways in which HIV scale-up may be leveraged to strengthen chronic disease services, informing, enhancing, and energizing the systems required to provide continuity care for the millions in need.

Samedi 16 juillet

"New concepts in HIV immunopathogenesis, treatment and vaccines"

Co-organized by the Anrs and the NIH. The meeting will draw key international opinion leaders who will present their innovative views and stimulate debate to help advance these three critical areas of research in HIV infection. Therapeutic successes thus far have brought the dream of a cure closer to reality but more basic understanding of how to control HIV is required. HIV vaccines continue to remain out of reach and ground-breaking ideas are needed that could also contribute to curing HIV. This platform for discussion between prominent vaccine and treatment specialists as well as basic scientists studying the molecular mechanisms of HIV control and immunopathogenesis will provide a unique opportunity to cross-fertilize these different fields.
